For example, just two weeks ago Jerry was apprehended by the police for a third DWI and has been ignoring responsibilities at work because of alcohol-related health issues. Furthermore, Jerry’s last three performance appraisals at work have been less than creditable and he has begun to forget what he says or does while he drinks. Finally, Jerry has been having sleep-related problems and his family has begun to exhibit some uneasiness about his drinking situation.

Lastly, Sarah has been feeling significantly less active when she gets up in the morning, she has been getting to work late at least every other day, and she has been receiving some unhelpful criticism from her coworkers, relatives, family members, and friends about her heavy drinking.

A Frank Dialogue About Drinking Activities Uncovers Alcohol Related Legal, Relationship, Health, Financial, and Employment Problems
After watching the television special, Jerry and Sarah arrived at a decision to have a candid chat about their drinking activities. They both were in agreement that most, if not all, of their social activities were related to drinking, that they were drinking in an excessive manner, and that as a couple, they were beginning to make note of alcohol related financial, legal, health, relationship, and employment problems for the first time in their lives.
With thoughts of the television program still etched in her mind, Sarah asked Jerry if some of the alcoholism signs they have been manifesting could mean that they are alcoholic or conceivably becoming addicted to alcohol. Jerry didn’t know the answer to Sarah’s inquiry and so he recommended that they make an appointment with one of the doctors at the local alcohol treatment facility to find out more about the severity of their drinking circumstances.
