Scented Candles

Don’t you just love the smell of a scented candle? I do. I love to go into a friend’s home that smells of apple pie, vanilla, or even an ocean breeze. Scented candles are a great way to let people know you care about your home and more importantly, their visit. And the great benefit is that there is no baking or traveling required.
So how do you find a great scented candle that smells the way it did in the store until it burns out? First of all, you get what you paid for. In scented candles, cheap is usually not going to last. Also, consider buying a small candle first. Most candles have a small version or even a tea light size. This is much better than spending $20 dollars and having a jar full of wax that goes in the trash.
Candles are made by doing the obvious thing, melting wax and adding a wick. But adding the scent to the candle can vary greatly. Some scents are added buy adding scented oil, some buy adding scented wax pebbles, and some by adding and actual oil from a plant. Because of this, most candle companies have a standard amount they add and this give a basic consistency any one line of scented candles.
If you can find a local candle maker, which is not as hard as you think, you can influence the amount added. I know a woman who makes candles in her home. If I request a particularly strong candle, she is happy to comply. But take note that scented candles tend to burn longest with the least amount of scent added. But either way you go, scented candles are sure to make your home a lovely place to be or a gift that keeps on giving.
